Today I learned some rather heartbreaking news – an old friend of mine has claimed agnosticism claiming that “those who claim to be followers of Christ have hurt me one too many times”.
If there is anything that will fire me up – it is people who claim Christianity NOT acting like Christ. Who do we think we are?
I am tired of seeing so many people reject a holy God because his followers do not act as if they are redeemed by the Christ they so loudly sing to/about on Sunday mornings.
We wonder why people don’t believe anymore…well the answer is simple – we are the problem.
There is a DC Talk song that has a quite in it that says:
“The single greatest cause of atheism in the world today is Christians who acknowledge Jesus with their lips, then walk out the door and deny Him by their lifestyles. That is what an unbelieving world simply finds unbelievable”.
I think this is a very true observation.
We are called to die to ourselves DAILY and follow Jesus – this means, putting God first, and others before yourself…and you living as if you are dead (Matt 16:24-25).
It is about time that we step up as believers and start acting as if we are redeemed with the blood of Jesus the Christ. Not just SAYING it, but LIVING it.
It is no longer we who live, but Christ who lives in us (Gal 2:20). We must always remember this, be reminded of this.
Has anyone who claims Christianity as their faith ever done you wrong? How did you react? What did you do about it?
Blessings.
Just remember the atheist is the least likely to change his ways. Imperfect Christians are just another excuse they use. It’s not easy, Christ was the only one, yet he accepted all.
I think we as humans are all least likely to change our ways – we all need the holy spirit to do the changing in us.
I seriously pray for Christians to shut their mouths, especially when they don’t know what they’re talking. Thanks for the post, because a lot of people don’t know what they’re doing or saying and it affects a lot of people. Thanks again.
Amen! Thank you for reading, and the comment :)
John, thanks for covering this. I have encountered this MANY times, and honestly it makes me work harder to NOT be like those people. But again, we’re all guilty of doing that sometimes if we aren’t careful.
again, thanks for posting this, really makes you think!
Sure thing, Renee! (: I needed it, too!
I was mad at christians for a couple of years for treating rude because I suffer from a chronic illness. I finally was healed from the hurt, but where’s the love people??????
It is embarrassing the way some christian act makes you wonder……..
seriously! i am sorry you weren’t shown love. that is just wrong. hope you are well, sister! (:
The best witness for Christ is Christianity. The worst witness for Christ is Christianity.
I like that – is that a quote?
JOhn, i have been having this discussion with a friend of mine. Chrsitians need to stop justifying sin! Stop talking ourselves into believing sin is ok in any form. We are called to be CHRISTLIKE in all things and even tho thats hard you can tell when someone is just playing church and really living a life as Christ-like as possible. thanks for writing this.
My pleasure :)
